The Communications section is the heartbeat of the police department. This division is comprised of 5 full-time and 2 part-time communications officers. These officers are
responsible for answering citizen calls through 911 relay, phone systems, and radios. Calls for service are then dispatched to road patrol officers or the fire department. Phone calls are answered and information recorded, or transferred to investigations, the administrative staff, and civilian staff as needed.
Communications
Communications personnel also dispatch the city's public works personnel after hours and weekends.
Communications personnel enter stolen guns, cars, and other identifiable items into the national data banks. They publish press releases, monitor approaching threatening weather and relay Amber Alerts and other lookouts.
Communications Officers monitor the welfare of all officers and summon aide from other agencies or off duty personnel when needed.
